St Paul's Church, Jarrow
St Paul's was the abbey church to a Benedictine monastery founded in 685. It had a twin monastery at Monkwearmouth which was built a few years earlier. The original dedication stone is housed in the Chancel, also original Saxon, and is believed to be the oldest surviving in England. The monastery was home to Bede who came there as a child.
