Beverley Minster is one of the largest Parish Churches in England. St John of Beverley, Bishop of York, founded a monastery in Beverley at the beginning of the 8th century. He is buried in a vault beneath the nave. After a fire in 1188 the church needed to be rebuilt. It was begun in the Gothic style. Building was completed in the early 15th century with addition of the west front and it's grand towers in the Perpendicular style.
